On Saturday, march 12, 2022, the management committee of Benin’s professional basketball league convened a press briefing at the EYA community center in Akpakpa.This event provided an chance for league officials to evaluate the outcomes of the first phase of the season.

the league’s initial phase kicked off on February 5 and concluded on February 26, 2022, for the North Conference, and on march 5, 2022, for the South Conference. A total of 36 matches were played in the South Conference, featuring both Senior Men’s and Women’s teams, while the North Conference saw 15 matches exclusively for Senior Men. In the South Conference, ELAN COTON BBC emerged as the top team in the Senior Men’s category, and Energie BBC led the Senior Women’s division, as confirmed by the Federal Commission for Statutes, Regulations, Qualifications, and Discipline.Simultaneously occurring, in the North Conference, Aspal BBC of Parakou claimed the leading position.

The management committee expressed satisfaction with the league’s progress, viewing it as a significant step toward showcasing Beninese basketball on the global stage.Arnaud Dègla, President of the Professional Basketball League’s Management Committee, emphasized his confidence in the league’s trajectory, stating, “After witnessing the first phase of both conferences, I can affirm that we are on the right path. The matches have been competitive and promising, though there is room for improvement. I am convinced that we are laying the foundation to elevate Beninese basketball to the pinnacle of African and, potentially, global basketball.” Dègla also highlighted his vision of the league rivaling those of basketball powerhouses like France and the United States in the coming years. Epiphane Soudonou, vice-president of the league, echoed this sentiment, affirming that the change of Beninese basketball is well underway, as previously emphasized by president Onifadé.
