Tottenham Hotspur was expelled from the Championship Division, Middlesbrough, in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Spurs lost 0-1 in extra time.
The Middlesbrough vs Tottenham duel took place at the Riverside Stadium, Wednesday (2/3/2022) early in the morning. This match was tough for 20 minutes. A new shot attempt was made in the 25th minute, when the ball released by Andraz Sporar could be blocked by a Tottenham player.
Tottenham had a golden opportunity in the 39th minute. Matt Doherty escaped from an offside position and past goalkeeper Joe Lumley who came out of the net. Doherty then fired from the side of the field, but the ball veered far from goal.
Doherty fired another shot in the 42nd minute. Again his kick ball has not led to the goal and the score 0-0 lasted until halftime.
Middlesbrough almost tore Tottenham’s goal in the second half, which was precisely in the 55th minute. Matt Crooks headed the ball in the goal mouth, but the direction was still deviated from the target.
Tottenham actually had scored in the 59th minute. Harry Kane stole the ball from his partner’s header which met a corner but the goal was disallowed for offside.
A chaos occurred in the Tottenham penalty box in the 87th minute, when Isaiah Jones’ shot was saved by Hugo Llorin. The rebound was then thrown by a Tottenham player off the field.
There were no goals during the 90 minutes of the game. The duel of the two teams was forced to continue to an additional 2×15 minutes.
Tottenham banged immediately at the start of the first half of added time. Dejan Kulusevski’s ball from outside the penalty box was slightly wide of the target.
Middlesbrough threatened Tottenham in the 103rd minute. Marcus Tavernier fired home from a tight angle, but the pace of the ball was still weak and Lloris was able to overcome it.
Middlesbrough managed to lead 1-0 when the second half of added time had only been running for one minute. Josh Coburn escaped from an offside position when he picked up a Matt Crooks pass and fired straight home from close range.
Tottenham immediately tried to find a reply goal as soon as possible. The shot that was released by Son Heung-Min in the 108th minute could still be pushed over by Lumley.
There was no reply from Tottenham until the game was over. Middlesbrough also has the right to advance to the next round.
