Lenzerheide (dpa) – Tennis superstar Roger Federer is making further health progress and is hoping for a comeback this summer.
“You can see I can move normally again. I still have to wait a bit to run. I hope I can increase that more and more over the next few months and I hope I can make a comeback in the middle or at the end of the year,” he said 40-year-old Swiss on ZDF. Federer watched the alpine ski race in Lenzerheide, in the immediate vicinity of his home, and described himself as a “giant ski fan”.
The longtime number one in the world had his right knee operated on for the third time in August. Most recently, he was on the tennis court in a match in the quarter-finals in Wimbledon in July 2021. “It’s been a difficult time the last few months. I was on crutches for two months, I’m back on my feet now,” Federer said, describing his state of health. The tennis pro has won 20 Grand Slam tournaments. The statistics are now led by the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who conquered title number 21 at the Australian Open in Melbourne.
