In the present of the 21st century, there is no war.
Almost no one expected that the fire would actually be cut off even after the Russian army began to prepare for war near the Ukrainian border earlier this year. There was news in the Western media saying that US intelligence was anticipating an attack by Russian troops, but such a choice is not understood by anyone internationally. The 69-year-old “dictator” with a black belt in judo shouldn’t be that stupid.
Perhaps many people were thinking that way. And some may have remembered this.
Vladimir Putin’s aim was probably there.
It is not only for the purpose of raising national prestige, but also for hosting a global sporting event, appealing that it is a legitimate nation that can host a “festival of peace” and has the same values as people all over the world. It was also for the sake of it. But behind the scenes of raising the external image of the nation in this way, he steadily pursued an attempt to build an empire-the first time he used this word for anything other than metaphor-and finally to the neighboring Ukraine entirely. Invaded and began to kill innocent people.
In other words, the world is now witnessing the real harm of sports washing.
The darkness of “sports washing”
It has been a long time since powers around the world have noticed and used the great influence that sports have on people, including football. The act of misusing sports to mask the darkness and injustices of nations and powerful individuals, especially human rights issues, has come to be defined as[sports washing].
It is said that many of the Olympics and World Cups in recent years and in the near future have been held and are about to be held in countries with such intentions. However, for many people in this country, including the author, who enjoy peace without difficulty, I think it was difficult to grasp what kind of situation it was creating, even if it could be imagined.
