Five debutants in the squad for the individual European Championships

Badminton Denmark’s sports management hopes to get two more doubles in the strong European Championship squad for Spain.

22 Danish players will be on the flight to Madrid when the individual European Championship is held from 25-30 April.

For five of the players, this is a debut. These are Amalie Schulz, Christine Busch, Mikkel Mikkelsen, Lasse Mølhede and Jeppe Bay.

In addition, Badminton Denmark’s sports management (SLT), which selects the squad, has applied for a wildcard for the men’s doubles Frederik Søgaard and Rasmus Kjær as well as the mixed doubles Amalie Magelund and Mathias Thyrri, who won the VICTOR DM in February.

– It is a strong squad that we have selected, and we hope to be able to deliver some good results and fight for the medals in all categories, says head national coach Kenneth Jonassen.

Badminton Denmark, in collaboration with Team Denmark, has a goal of 12 medal points, while an acceptable goal will be 10 medal points.

Gold counts for three medal points, silver for two and bronze for one point.

Men’s singles:

Women’s singles:

  • Rikke Søby & Mikkel Mikkelsen

The most recent individual European Championship was held in 2021 in Ukraine.

Here it was a gold medal for Anders Antonsen, silver for Viktor Axelsen and Line Christophersen and bronze medals for Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus, Kim Astrup / Anders Skaarup, Maiken Fruergaard / Sara Thygesen and Alexandra Bøje / Mathias Christiansen.
