The slovakian football club FK Senica recently announced the departure of its director of football, David Balda, marking the end of an era for the club and Indonesian football. Balda’s tenure was marked by significant achievements, including guiding FK Senica to its highest league position in seven years and securing a spot in the UEFA Conference League play-offs.
Balda played a pivotal role in bringing two of Indonesia’s brightest football prospects, Egy Maulana Vikri and Witan Sulaeman, to Europe. This move not only provided these young talents with valuable experience in a competitive european league but also positioned FK Senica as a pioneer in recognizing and nurturing Indonesian talent.
Egy, who joined FK Senica on a free transfer in September, has made a notable impact, featuring in 17 matches and contributing two goals and one assist. Witan, who arrived on loan from Polish club lechia Gdansk, has also made his presence felt, consistently appearing in matches and showcasing his skills.

As Balda embarks on a new chapter in his career, his legacy at FK Senica will be remembered for his commitment to nurturing young talent and his role in forging a path for Indonesian footballers in Europe.
Football Diplomacy: An Interview with Former Indonesian International Bambang Pamungkas
Today, we have a very special guest joining us: Bambang “Bepe” Pamungkas, Indonesian football legend and former captain of the national team. Bepe, thanks for taking the time to chat with us today.
Bambang Pamungkas: It’s my pleasure. Always good to discuss the beautiful game.
We’re here to talk about a interesting growth in the world of Indonesian football – the departure of david Balda from FK Senica and the legacy he leaves behind in terms of nurturing Indonesian talent in Europe.
Bambang Pamungkas: This is truly exciting news for Indonesian football. David Balda has shown great vision in recognizing the potential within our young players and providing them with a platform to shine on the European stage.
Egy Maulana Vikri and Witan Sulaeman have been making waves at FK Senica. What are yoru thoughts on their performances and the potential impact this will have on future generations of indonesian footballers?
Bambang Pamungkas: Both Egy and Witan are incredibly talented players with a shining future ahead of them.
They’re showing that indonesian footballers can compete at the highest level.Their success at FK Senica will undoubtedly inspire a new wave of young players to dream big and chase their European ambitions.
The fact that a club like FK Senica has become a pioneer in recruiting Indonesian talent speaks volumes about the growing reputation of Indonesian football on the international scene.
Bambang Pamungkas: Absolutely. This is a turning point. We’ve seen Indonesian players occasionally break through in Europe before, but Balda’s work at FK Senica has established a meaningful pathway for more players to follow.
There’s a lot of untapped talent in Indonesia, and now there’s a clearer route for them to get the exposure and experience they need to develop into world-class players.
however, some argue that focusing on sending young players abroad might hinder the development of the domestic league in Indonesia. What are your thoughts on this
Bambang Pamungkas: It’s a valid point. We need a strong domestic league to nurture our talent and create a competitive environment.
Though, I believe that sending players abroad can be beneficial for both the individuals and indonesian football as a whole.
It exposes them to different styles of play, higher levels of competition, and professional training methods, which they can then bring back home and contribute to the growth of the domestic league.
It’s about finding the right balance – investing in both our domestic infrastructure and creating opportunities for our young stars to shine on the international stage.
As for David Balda’s departure, where do you see him landing next? And what impact do you think he’ll have on the club he chooses?
Bambang Pamungkas: David Balda’s reputation as a talent scout is growing rapidly.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he lands at a bigger club in a more competitive league. He has the midas touch when it comes to uncovering hidden gems, so whichever club he joins will benefit immensely from his expertise.
He’s shown that he can build a successful project around young, talented players, and I believe he’ll continue to do so wherever he goes.
With Balda’s departure, FK Senica faces a challenging task in replicating the success they achieved under his leadership. What advice would you give to the club moving forward?
Bambang Pamungkas: FK Senica established a model, a clear pathway. The key now is to maintain consistency.
They need to continue to scout for promising young talent, both domestically and internationally, and provide them with the same level of support and guidance that Balda provided.
If they can do that, they can build on the strong foundations laid by Balda and continue to be a force to be reckoned with in European football.
