Football: Colombia’s elimination from the World Cup impacts trade | Economy

The president of Fenalco, Jaime Alberto Cabal, described the elimination of the Colombian team from the Qatar 2022 World Cup as a blow to business.

He pointed out that the sectors most affected in terms of sales will be companies related to gastronomy, bars, fast food, homes and clothing, among others, which had already begun to make investments in adaptations for this sporting event.

The television market, which historically has a significant rise before the start of the event, will also suffer; as well as travel agencies, the beverage sector and different sponsoring brands, among others.

According to the president of Fenalco, the reports of the bars and restaurants during the World Cups in Brazil and Russia indicate that there was an increase in their income between 30% and 40%, compared to the same periods of the years immediately previous.

“The elimination of the Colombian team will severely affect the sales of companies linked to gastronomy, bars, fast foods, homes, t-shirts and other clothing items, souvenirs, travel agencies, airlines, beer, spirits and soft drinks in general, subscription TV. , televisions and something very emotional in the Colombian, the Panini album”, warned the president of Fenalco.

He stated that the sale of figures from the Panini album moves several thousand dollars in the country, to the point that during the two months prior to the famous event, as long as Colombia participates, sales of the stationery line soar that DANE monitors.

He pointed out that during the development of a World Cup when Colombia participates, beer sales increase by 37%, liquor sales by 20%, televisions by 19%, and soft drinks by 12%.
