The two friends have formed the axis of the Castonétoise central defense for two seasons. This complementary duo should be renewed for the reception of Albi-Marssac, Saturday March 12 at 6 p.m.
Appointment was made before training on Thursday March 10 at the La Roque stadium. After a photo shoot under a downpour and the appearance of a rainbow, Romain Soulatges and Hugo Bonnefous, the duo that makes up the central castonétoise hinge, confided in joy, as always.
“We were at boarding school together in third in Fabre for a year. Romain played at Raf and I here. If someone had told me that one day we would play together behind at Onet, I would not have believed it”, laughs Hugo Bonnefous, the pure defender. The native Réquistanais and son of Yves, a former player of the great Ségalis era in D4, may well be surprised. Because the Ruthénois Soulatges would certainly not have bet a few years ago to abandon his beloved midfielder and his freedom with the ball to play in defense, he is the aesthete of the round ball. “With age, you go back. Even if at the beginning it was a choice of the coach to remedy injuries and suspensions, now I enjoy. This post is great, you see the whole game in front of you. Even if from time to time, I knit a little too much”smiles mischievously the one who started his career in Sévérac, where his father and grandfather were educators.
Bonnefous: “Sometimes he’s scary but that’s his quality”
This association sparks with the many duels won by Bonnefous and the first sharp reminders from Soulatges. Enough to allow Boscus’ men to systematically start from behind and practice a game of possession. “Bonnef’ in one against one, it’s huge, it’s hard on the man. Sharing this post with my friend, it’s great”, testifies Soulatges. Compliments returned by his partner: “We are 200% complementary. When he starts doing something, I already start anticipating and it’s the same for him.he said. He is a player full of qualities, in particular his recovery, his vision of the game. And his risk-taking. Sometimes he’s scary but that’s his quality. Afterwards, we play a game where you have to take these risks.”
Boscus: “Romain was not a defender, now he is”
Even if the defects of their qualities could have cost a few points at the start of the season by being too playful at times, especially during meetings outside, the two former boarding school companions now seem insurmountable to the delight of the coach of the yellow and blue. “They have an understanding and a complementarity that suits them rather well. They are both competitors. Romain was not a defender, now he is one. Everyone has different qualities and it works”analyzes Yoan Boscus.
So effective that the Castonetois play the spoilsports this season by offering a quality game. They occupy the place of runner-up, three points behind Lourdes, the leader, with a game behind schedule. “For the four seasons that I have been at the club, we have always played the maintenance. The group has become mature, it has reached a level, especially in the game. There, it becomes very pleasant”savors Romain Soulatges. “Chase victories, we get a taste for it. But we don’t take the lead. The season is still long, it can go quickly in both directions”corroborates his sidekick.
