Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian competition has come to a standstill. Most foreign players have now fled the country. FIFA has now decided that those players’ contracts will be suspended until the end of the season.
Foreign footballers and coaches who were working in Ukraine are suddenly free of transfers and are allowed by FIFA to conclude a temporary agreement with another club until the end of this season.
New players must be registered before April 7th and clubs may attract a maximum of 2 eligible players.
Foreigners from the Russian league will also have the opportunity to play football this season. Russian clubs have until March 10 to reach an agreement with players and coaches, after which they can temporarily sign for another club, just like the foreigners from the Ukrainian league. After the end of this season, the current contracts in Ukraine and Russia will be valid again.
Due to FIFA’s decision, many European clubs will no doubt suddenly be on the fence about doing a temporary business. A lot of interesting foreigners, mainly Brazilians from top clubs such as Zenit and Shakhtar, are suddenly appearing on the market.
