March 3, 2022 – David Neres can make another transfer less than two months after his departure from Ajax. The player is in contact with his former club São Paulo to discuss a possible return. The player is officially still under contract with the Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk.
When Ukraine was invaded by Russia, Neres and his Brazilian teammates got stuck in the capital Kiev. The players have since fled the country. However, it does not appear that the situation will be any time soon for Neres to return to his club. São Paulo has therefore – in all caution – cast a line.
The club where Neres went through the entire youth academy and then broke through into the first team has contacted the 25-year-old attacker, but understands that he and his family have been through a difficult time. “It’s all still very fresh,” director Carlos Belmonte told the Brazilian Lance† “But we can talk about it. We don’t have the resources to buy it, but we are open to taking it temporarily.”
The Brazilian medium was told by sources around Neres that he is not yet actively working on his future. The player would first like to wait for more clarity about the situation in Ukraine and his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk, which actually runs until mid-2026.
