In France Football’s list of awards, the Yashin award joins the men’s Ballon d’Or, women’s Ballon d’Or and the Kopa trophy for the best player under 21.
Lev Yashin, who defended the networks of Dynamo Moscow and the Soviet Union in the 50s and 60s, was the only goalkeeper to win the France Football Ballon d’Or, having won the trophy in 1963.
Yashin, who died in 1990, aged just 60, became known as the black spider and is still considered one of the best goalkeepers in football history.
The 10 finalists will be announced on October 21st and the award will be presented on December 2nd, at a ceremony in Paris.
