France Lifts Mask Mandate and Vaccination Pass in March
French Prime Minister Jean castex revealed a significant easing of COVID-19 restrictions during a TF1 news segment on Thursday. Starting March 14th, France will discontinue the mandatory use of face masks indoors, with the exception of public transportation and healthcare facilities. The vaccination pass, wich has been in effect since January, will also be suspended nationwide on that date.
Castex attributed the positive shift to the collective efforts of the French people.”The situation is improving thanks to our shared commitment,” he stated. “We have reached a point where we can safely move forward with relaxing these measures.”
This news comes as a relief to many, including world-renowned tennis player Novak Djokovic. The unvaccinated athlete’s participation in upcoming tournaments, such as the Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo (April 9-17) and the French Open (May 22-June 5), was previously uncertain due to his vaccination status. The lifting of the vaccination pass now paves the way for his return to the court.
As of february 2023, France has seen a steady decline in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, indicating a positive trend in the fight against the pandemic. This easing of restrictions aligns with similar moves by other european countries, signaling a gradual return to normalcy.
