Anthony Limbombe has been sidelined at FC Nantes for a long time. The Belgian winger (ex-Genk, Club Brugge and Standard) played his last game for the club more than two years ago, on March 7, 2020.
Since last summer, Limbombe has had to train with the second team of the French club. Last winter he was very close to a transfer to Zulte Waregem, but the deal fell through at the last minute.
Limbombe is said to have urged the French league organization LFP three times to let him train again with the first team. He said his development suffered from training at a lower level. In the meantime, LFP has obliged his club to include him again in the first team and to have him train again with the A-core.
fine
If the club does not comply with LFP’s order, it can expect a fine. Nantes is doing very well this season with a sixth place in the league and a place in the cup final.
Limbombe is still under contract with Nantes until mid-2023. In the summer of 2018, he made the switch from Club Brugge to the French for around eight million euros. Several months earlier, he had earned his first and only cap ever for the Red Devils. In 2019 he was loaned to Standard for another six months, but that was not a success.
