General Caballero, the Paraguayan rookie, beats Sol de América in the South American

General Caballero, recently promoted to the first division of Paraguay, thrashed Sol de América 3-0 this Tuesday in Asunción, in the first leg of the first phase of the 2022 South American Cup between Paraguayan clubs that dispute a place in the round of groups.

The goals for the red team were scored by strikers Junior Marabel, Clementino González and Walter Rodríguez, at 43, 58 and 90 minutes of play, respectively.

Vastly superior, the team led by Gustavo Bobadilla, former Olimpia de Asunción goalkeeper and coach in teams from Guatemala and Colombia, could have reaped more if it were not for the lack of fortune of their scorers.

The blue “Dancers”, led by the Argentine Juan Pablo Pumpido, brother of the former goalkeeper of the world champion Argentine team Nery Pumpido, were lackluster, without any marked ambition to close the gap.

The “General’s” team, on the other hand, had in the Argentine midfielder Guillermo Hauché the perfect setter to order and promote the conquests of his team.

The first was a deep assist from him controlled by his midfield partner, Elías Lezcano, who combined with Junior Marabel down the left side.

This, in individual play, broke away from two defenders to launch a perfect jump that was introduced near the left post of the goal defended by goalkeeper Luis Ojeda.

In the second half, Pumpido’s team did not wake up and allowed the red players to dominate the actions.

At 58 came the second conquest, the work of Clementino González, who headed a center from Alfonso’s right. This opened a gap between two defenders to send the cross measured for González’s entry.

Bobadilla’s team was not satisfied with their harvest and tried to increase the score. The third entry was obtained by Walter Rodríguez when the match expired.

The striker, as a refresher, shook the net of the goal defended by Ojeda with a tremendous kick executed from 40 meters impossible to contain.

The previous assistance was from Luis Fernández, who lowered the ball with his chest.

The “General” monopolized the chances against a rival that almost did not reach the goal defended by goalkeeper Gustavo Arévalos, except for a free kick recorded at 86 minutes that was wasted by Argentine striker Emiliano Ozuna.

The rematch to meet the Guarani team that will go to the group stage is scheduled for next Thursday.
