The pandemic caused serious consequences in the world of football and Girona, as we already knew, did not avoid them. The white-and-red club closed the 2021 financial year – which expired on June 30 – with a 28% reduction in revenue compared to the previous year. According to the Palco23 portal, this meant a drop of up to 10.7 million euros. In addition, losses rose to 6.7 million. These figures are considerably worse than those of the 2019-20 season, when the coronavirus broke out, which was 34,080 euros.
It should be noted that the 2020-21 campaign was not public in Montilivi until the last two play-off matches played at the stadium and that capacity was limited to 1,500 people. Only members were able to purchase tickets and prices ranged from 10 to 25 euros, so the club could not cash in. As a result, ticketing, season tickets and retail revenues declined.
Girona, which is part of the City Football Group, approved two capital increases and applied cost containment measures with a restructuring of its labor costs. LaLliga’s agreement with the investment group CVC has also left some 32 million in Girona.
