(San Antonio) San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich on Friday set a new record for most wins in NBA history. By beating the Utah Jazz 104-102, “Coach Pop” got his hands on his 1336e career victory.

This gain allowed Popovich to take first place in history alone, ahead of his friend and mentor Don Nelson, with whom he had worked as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors in the early 1990s.
Popovich will have needed 2030 games, spread over 26 seasons, to establish this new record. He has spent his entire head coaching career with the San Antonio Spurs.
Unsurprisingly, the feat was underlined without fanfare.
Any token of recognition is quickly brushed off the hand or simply ignored by Popovich.
During his 26 seasons at the helm of Spurs, Popovich won five NBA championships and 13 division titles. He was named one of the 15 greatest coaches in NBA history.
Under his leadership, Spurs won at least 50 games in 18 consecutive seasons between 2000 and 2017, a record.
