Herne Judo Championships: A Showcase of Skill and Determination
The recent Herne Judo Championships saw 40 athletes from KSV Herne, DSC Wanne-Eickel – Judo, and DSC teams eagerly return to the mat after a long hiatus. The event provided a platform for both seasoned competitors and newcomers to test their skills and gain valuable experience. Spectators were treated to an exciting display of judo, with young athletes showcasing their developing techniques alongside the more experienced judoka.
The competition was structured to ensure everyone had the opportunity to participate and learn. Children were grouped by weight, regardless of gender, while youth and adult categories followed conventional weight divisions. Adding an extra layer of challenge, a special all-category competition was held for the youth, allowing them to test their abilities against a wider range of opponents.

Rising Stars Shine Shining
In the children’s division, benedikt and Charlotte Meyer, Dominik Fritz, Oskar Sewczyk, and Paul Sewczyk emerged as city champions. The youth category saw Pia Ciupczuk, Felix Kretke, fabian Gößling, and Artem Amoian claim victory, while David Linkemann dominated the all-category competition.
Adult competitors Jens Kassubeck and Eva Strack also secured city champion titles, demonstrating the depth of talent across all age groups.
Close Contests and Hard-Fought Battles
The competition was fierce, with several athletes narrowly missing out on the top spot. Nikolaj Maier, Philipp Hopp, Raphael Poplawski, David Linkemann, and Artur Kasoian earned vice-city champion titles, while Anastassia Chernov also secured a runner-up position.
Fabian Gößling, Kai Gollan, and Lilly-Moira Scharf showcased their skills in the all-category youth competition, claiming vice-city champion honors.
Third-place finishes were awarded to Iwan Maier, Ole Viefhauer, Henri Nießen, Arne Worbs, Josefine Würfel, and Younes Ankour. Mateusz Dorszynski, Leon Zilch, and Nehir Atmaca also secured podium spots, along with Karsten Sewczyk and Katharina Schmidt.
