The confrontation between the two will take place in the bullring of Tolosa, this Saturday from 6:30 p.m.
Mikel Larrañaga from Azpeitia and Iker Vicente from Otsagabi presented this Tuesday at the Tolosa bullring the bet that will measure them on Saturday, starting at 6:30 p.m., in the bullring. It will be the first challenge between the current champion and runner-up in the 21st century. It has been 23 years since a champion and a runner-up from Euskal Herria met, so Saturday’s meeting is historic between the two best aizkolaris of the moment.
Both have gone to Tolosa on Tuesday to explain to the media what the challenge will be like. A challenge that will measure them on 18 logs, divided into six oinbikos or 72-inch logs, and twelve kanaerdikos or 54-inch logs. Vicente will take ten kanaerdikos to the square and Larrañaga will be in charge of putting the six oinbikos and two more kanaerdikos. 7,000 euros will be at stake for each part.
Larrañaga’s physical appearance has drawn attention. The Spaniard currently weighs 89 kilos and has lost ten in the three months of preparation. For his part, Vicente has opted to gain a couple of kilos more. That already indicates what they have worked on one and the other and where they saw their weaknesses and strengths. It is a long bet and the Gipuzkoan wanted to “take a physical background, since I noticed that after 30 minutes my performance dropped.” His rival, on the other hand, wanted to win in power. “Larrañaga has an explosive start and I want to hold him and for that I need more strength.”
Box office, open on Saturday
The ticket offices in the square will open at 11.00 am on Saturday morning. One hour after Larrañaga is in charge of preparing the logs. Also present at the presentation were the mayor of Tolosa, Olatz Peon, and the sports councilor for the paper town, Jose Maria Villanueva Telleria.
