Tremors in the Hertha leadership!
Sports director Arne Friedrich (42) is leaving Hertha BSC with immediate effect – the separation was actually only planned after the end of the contract in the summer.
In a club announcement, the ex-professional makes it clear why he is now leaving the capital club prematurely: “For various reasons, I have had the feeling over the past few months that my influence on important sporting decisions is no longer sufficient to carry out my tasks as a football player to meet sports director. Therefore, we decided together to end the cooperation prematurely.”
Sport Managing Director Fredi Bobic (50) is quoted as saying: “In an open discussion we have now jointly determined that, with a view to planning for the coming season, it makes more sense to end the cooperation now. We would like to thank Arne Friedrich very much for his energy and support over the past two and a half years.”
Rumms!
It is the quick end of an official era at Hertha that began in November 2019. At that time, Friedrich returned to his former club as a performance manager. After ex-manager Michael Preetz (54) left in January 2021, Friedrich took over his duties until the end of the season and managed to stay up in the league.
In the summer, Bobic came as the new boss, Friedrich stepped down to the second rank – and now completely. It had been officially known for a long time that Friedrich would not extend his contract, which expired in the summer.
Friedrich says goodbye with the words: “I am and will remain a Herthaner. I wish the team and everyone who is involved in our club that the short and medium-term success that this club and its people deserve will come.”
