Hiddink gave Abramovich advice
As a former Chelsea coach, Guus Hiddink is friends with disgraced Russian owner Roman Abramovich, who is currently playing a role in peace talks about the war in Ukraine.
“In the early days of the war, I was in contact with his right-hand man. Then I said: Roman can pick up the Nobel Peace Prize if he intervenes now and goes to Moscow. That was a bit of a naive assumption on my part. But it’s surprising I don’t think he’s doing that now.”
Hiddink, former national coach of Russia, has also been in contact with his former staff and some players. “In the first days they were ashamed. Then I noticed that the app traffic became more neutral. Because the control there is so repressive and strict. I can imagine that.”
