Borna Coric (167th in the world) will make his return to the ATP circuit in Indian Wells, when he faces Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round. The Croatian’s last match was in March 2021, for the Rotterdam ATP semifinals.
“I’ve been playing for a while now, I started on November 1 but at that time I couldn’t serve. I have been playing tennis for the last three months and from the second I was able to serve properly. That’s when I told myself that I had to make friends with the ball again. It’s fantastic as I haven’t picked up a racket in seven months, the longest period of my career”.
The former World No.12 added: “I didn’t feel safe, I was serving softly and I kept feeling pain, sometimes even with muscle spasms. The doubts were increasing, but I knew I had to do my best to get back to where I was before the injury, both physically and with my serve”.
Coric, 24, also rescued something from this part: “This break helped me realize how much I love tennis, I missed it a lot. For the last eight years I felt like I was being crushed with all the pressure and expectations. Therefore, what has happened to me has been good, I have the opportunity to reset, renew my passion and realize how much I enjoy my life as a tennis player.
