Stan Wawrinka, one of the closest talents to the Big4, has not competed for more than a year due to untimely injuries and subsequent operations. That serious problem in one of his knees that left him out of the courts took him away from his best days. He hasn’t won titles since 2017 but perhaps the only thing he is looking for is just to enjoy the sport again.
In a chat with The Teamspoke of his feelings getting closer to the time to return: “I still have that inner fire that drives me to play tennis, train hard and suffer. As long as I have that I will continue playing. I feel that I have not closed this chapter of my life and that I still have things to do on the circuit. I kept having fun in recent years and if injuries respect me I know I can still do important things.”
“I return to feel like a tennis player again and to be able to retire on the courts, but that does not mean that I am going to leave it at the end of this season. I have made a great effort to leave it six months after returning, so my desire is to rediscover those emotions that I have felt for years with competition. I love this sport and continue to have a tremendous passion for it. Sometimes we forget that we are tennis players because we love to play, many professionals see tennis as a job and, sometimes, we have to go back to being those children who wanted to play for the mere fact of having fun. It motivates me a lot to enjoy this sport again,” completed the winner of 16 titles.
The playful sports activity as a means to do what you like. Great little detail.
