Nine months after the “Grand Prix Yonex badminton”, a popular event that brought 180 athletes from all over Italy to the city, Modena is preparing to host another national event linked to badminton. In the afternoon of Saturday 12 and in the morning of March 13, the sports center Gino Nasi will in fact welcome four of the best teams of the federal B series, including the organizers of Modena Badminton, who will compete in a “concentration” as part of the second Italian championship. team sponsored by the Italian Badminton Federation (FIBa). Entrance to the gym in via Tarquinia 55 is free; to access, you must show the reinforced Green pass and wear the Ffp2 mask (online information on the website www.modena-badminton.it).
“This is an important sporting event – underlines the councilor for Sport Grazia Baracchi, who will go to greet the athletes over the weekend – which once again confirms the ability of Modenese sport, even by the clubs involved in lesser-known disciplines, therefore, to intercept and develop high-level initiatives on the territory “.
In particular, the teams Brescia Sport più, Lazio Badminton and Acqui Badminton will participate in the appointment, as well as of course Modena Badminton which last autumn won promotion to Serie B, guaranteeing the right to participate in this national tournament. The formations will face each other following a calendar of cross-matches which includes three moments of play, each of which with two matches played simultaneously: at 13.30 and at 17 on Saturday and at 9 on Sunday 13. Modena will therefore face, in order, the club of Acqui Terme, Rome and Brescia. Two other series B concentrations, technically “inter-social meetings”, will be organized in parallel in Bolzano, with the organization of the company Mals Malles Venosta (for group A), and in Catania with the activity of Le Saette (for groups C and).
In the intentions of the organizers, the possibility of free access to the event, as already happened on the occasion of the “Grand Prix” of June 2021, will contribute to spreading the knowledge of this discipline suitable for all and all ages throughout the territory. Although it is still little known and not very widespread in Italy, in fact, badminton is an ancient sport and one of the most practiced in the world; watching it is fascinating and fun, full of lightning-fast on-the-fly exchanges, head changes and eventful recoveries that make it the fastest racquet sport.
Recognized as an Olympic discipline in 1992, badminton arrived in Modena in 2014 thanks to a group of fans. In 2016 the Modena Badminton amateur sports association was born, affiliated with FIBa, with an annual training program for the entire sporting season at all levels. It participates in the national Serie B championship and collaborates with the various entities present in the area in numerous initiatives, also offering activities in schools and summer camps for children and adults; moreover, for its members it promotes training and specialization moments and trips in Italy and abroad on the occasion of tournaments and internships. Every Monday and Wednesday from 6pm to 9pm and Friday from 6pm to 8pm at the Gino Nasi sports center, free demonstration trials are organized for those interested in trying this discipline.
