Mexico City Judo Team Gears Up for national Competition

The Mexico City Judo Selection is in high gear, preparing for upcoming events organized by the Mexican Judo Federation and the 2022 CONADE National Games. A recent training session at the Deportivo “Hermanos Galeana” dojo in Gustavo A. Madero showcased the team’s dedication and the expertise of their coaches.

The day began wiht the young judokas, led by Sensei Alondra Pérez, Javier Torres, and Jesús Rosas, president of the Mexico City Judokas Association. Focusing on newaza techniques,particularly for those who excelled in the recent Mexico City Games and are now aiming for the regional CONADE 2022 stage,the session emphasized floor tactics crucial for success.Following a spirited practice, the younger athletes engaged in recreational activities, maintaining their enthusiasm. the youth team then took to the mats, eager to learn and improve.

Sensei Víctor Hugo Ortega initiated the session, sharing his insights on unbalancing and throwing techniques. He praised the training format, highlighting the benefits of bringing together talented athletes and experienced coaches like himself, Sensei Jaime Flores, and Sensei Jesús Rosas. The presence of experienced referees further enhanced the training by analyzing various scenarios and promoting a deeper understanding of the sport.The intensity continued as Sensei Jaime Flores led the group through a series of newaza techniques, pushing the athletes to their limits. The challenging exercises seemed to fuel their determination, as they rotated partners and even sparred with their coaches.After a series of intense floor fights, Sensei Jesús Rosas concluded the session with additional submission techniques on the tatami.

To cap off the day, members of the Mexico City Judo Team received their official uniforms, courtesy of the CDMX Sports Institute, symbolizing their commitment and readiness for the upcoming competitions.

Thank you for having me. I’m incredibly proud of the dedication shown by these young athletes. The recent training session at the Deportivo “Hermanos Galeana” dojo was truly inspiring.

The training seems heavily focused on newaza techniques. Why prioritize this aspect?

Newaza, or ground fighting, is crucial for success in judo. Mastering these techniques gives our judokas an edge, allowing them to dominate their opponents even when taken to the ground.

It’s not just about throws and takedowns; controlling the fight on the mat is key.

The article mentions the involvement of experienced referees. How does their presence enhance training?

Having experienced referees analyze scenarios and offer insights is invaluable. Thay bring a different viewpoint, helping the athletes understand the nuances of the rules and refine their strategies accordingly.

We firmly believe in collaborative learning. Having experienced coaches like Sensei Alondra Perez, Javier Torres, Víctor Hugo Ortega, and myself guide these young athletes creates a supportive environment where they can learn from each other and from our accumulated knowledge.

Looking ahead, what are the team’s expectations for the upcoming CONADE National Games and the Mexican Judo Federation events?

Our athletes are well-prepared and motivated. We aim to showcase their skills and dedication on a national stage. We’re confident in their ability to compete at the highest level and bring recognition to Mexico City Judo.
