The badminton season took off on Sunday on the college circuit as representatives of the Filons du Cégep de Thetford took part in the competition in Granby.
Composed of two girls and four boys, the Thetford delegation made a good figure even if only one pair of participants managed to cross the preliminary rounds. Indeed, Hugo Lavallée and Maxime Lavoie joined forces to carve out a place in the quarter-finals, where they lost, but not without delivering three close sets to their opponents.
Moreover, the duo composed of Xavier Arata and Jérémie Labillois also did well by fighting a good battle at each of their outings, as did Amélie Marcoux and Jessica Poirier for the girls. In mixed doubles, the color bearers of Les Filons offered good performances, the pair formed by Amélie Marcoux and Maxime Lavoie, as well as that of Jessica Poirier and Xavier Arata. Unfortunately, an injury to Jessica eventually forced her team to forfeit.
For coach Nadia Houde, this first outing for her proteges is very encouraging. “There was a good progression from the veterans who were there last year, while the newcomers also showed good skills. Even though it was the first competition of the year, we discovered a good chemistry between the different teammates.
The Filons will continue their training for the next tournament which will take place on November 10 in Drummondville when it will be a singles competition.
