The fourth day of the first stage of the 2022 World Cup in Cairo saw the Italian shooting team achieve notable success in the 10-metre team competitions.

Italy secured a silver medal in the men’s rifle event and a bronze medal in the men’s pistol competition, demonstrating their prowess on the international stage.

In the men’s rifle, Croatia emerged victorious, defeating Italy’s team of Danilo Dennis Sollazzo, Lorenzo Bacci, and Riccardo Armiraglio with a score of 16-10. The Czech Republic claimed the bronze medal, edging out Austria 16-14.

The men’s pistol competition saw a dominant performance from Germany,who blanked Turkey 16-0. Italy’s Luca tesconi, Alessio Torracchi, and Paolo Monna secured the bronze medal with a convincing 16-6 victory over India.

The women’s pistol event saw India triumph over Germany with a score of 16-6, while China Taipei secured the bronze medal by defeating Singapore 16-8. The Italian team of Maria Varricchio, Chiara Giancamilli, and Sara Costantino finished in fifth place.

Hungary claimed the gold medal in the women’s rifle event, defeating Norway 17-13. Singapore secured the bronze medal with a 16-8 win over Poland. The Italian team of Martina Ziviani, Sofia Ceccarello, and Giulia Mainetti finished in tenth place.

The men’s rifle final was a nail-biter! Croatia edged out Italy in a close 16-10 finish.With such tight scores, what do you think separates the best shooters at elite competitions like this?

DI: At this level, the difference often comes down to mental fortitude. Consistency is key, and handling the pressure of the moment can make all the difference. Croatia clearly held their nerves, but I expect to see Italy bouncing back even stronger in future competitions.

Moving on to the men’s pistol, Italy faced a formidable German team in the semi-finals. they put up a strong fight but were ultimately defeated 16-0. Germany’s dominance in this event was undeniable.

DI: Germany’s performance was remarkable. They displayed extraordinary precision and teamwork throughout the competition. however, I wouldn’t underestimate the Italian team. Their bronze medal win against India shows their resilience and ability to perform under pressure.

On the women’s side, the Italian team didn’t reach the podium in either the rifle or pistol event. What are some factors that could be influencing these results?

DI: It’s significant to remember that every team goes through ups and downs. In shooting, even the slightest margin for error can impact the outcome. The women’s team showcased glimpses of brilliance, and with focused training and experience, I’m confident they’ll be back on the podium soon.

Taipei’s bronze medal in the women’s pistol was a surprise for many. Do you think we’re seeing a shift in the power dynamics within women’s shooting?

DI: Absolutely. This is a testament to the growing global talent pool in shooting, which is fantastic for the sport. We’re seeing more countries emerging as serious contenders, making for thrilling and unpredictable competitions.
