On the World Championship track, the blue ran without rivals. Battery without problems in 6”56, then the early departure which is worth the red. Fly the Dosso, fresh Italian record holder
An extension or a little more: the battery of 60 for Marcell Jacobs had been a formality. The policeman had run undisturbed in 6 ”56, digging an abyss between himself and the others. The reaction time to the shot of 0 ”163, the quality starting, the easy launch. Not busy, in the final he gave the impression of decelerating. The closest rival, the Turkish Kayhan Ozer, finished very far, at 18/100, in 6 ”74. The blue is back on track (it is the one that will host the World Championships on March 18-20) at 7.42pm for the final. On paper it is without opponents, but there is no way to really find out. Jacobs on moves from the blocks before the others and is disqualified. Slovakian Jan Volko wins (in the specialty three times on the European podium) in 6”69.
Dosso shines
—
Well Jacobs, great Zaynab Dosso. The new Italian record holder from Reggio, wins her own battery of 60 with a convincing 7 ” 20, 4/100 from the fresh record, then confirming herself in the final with 7 ” 21 which earned her the success.
Pontius records
—
A problem with the measurement in New York had assigned him and then removed the Italian indoor record at the end of January. This time, however, there are no mistakes: Nick Ponzio, American by birth and training, Italian roots by his great-grandfather of Paceco (Trapani), sends the weight to the measure of 21.61, two centimeters more than what Leonardo Fabbri did in 2020 in Stockholm (21.59). Less than two weeks from the Indoor World Championships in Belgrade, on the same platform that will award the world medals, the weightlifter who made his blue debut at the Tokyo Olympics sends a message of solidity to all the other pitchers vying for the podium: he is the sixth to the world of the season and in hindsight only one is unattainable, the American record holder and Olympic gold medalist Ryan Crouser.
