The disappointment at the end of the ATP 500 tournament in Dubai is pursuing, the focus is again on the upcoming task. For Jannik Sinner this is: Davis Cup in Bratislava.

Jannik Sinner has made himself rare in the last month. All in all, the 20-year-old only played one tournament after the quarter-finals at the Australian Open – namely the one in Dubai mentioned at the beginning. Most recently, the Sextener enjoyed relaxing days in his home country, which he also used to go skiing with Lindsey Vonn and Manfred Mölgg. Things will get serious again on Friday, however, as the youngster battles Italy for promotion to the Davis Cup finals against Slovakia.

Sinner will meet Norbert Gombos (ATP 110) on Friday, and the next day he will face Alex Molcan (ATP 66). The aim of Simone Vagnozzi’s protégé is to continue his series in the colors of Italy, as he has so far won all individual games in national team dress. At the end of last year he excelled with three successes in the Davis Cup, before the Australian Open he did not show any weaknesses in the ATP Cup either.

Good memories of Gombos

Sinner has already defeated the 31-year-old Gombos in two sets in 2020, but he has never met Molcan. Because Matteo Berrettini is injured again, Sextner is Italy’s number 1 in Bratislava. In addition to Sinner, Lorenzo Sonego (ATP 21) should fix Italy’s progress. In addition, captain Filippo Volandri has nominated Simone Bolelli, Stefano Travaglia and talent Flavio Cobolli. Sinner’s match will take place on Friday at 5 p.m., Sonego’s will start afterwards.
