Jelle Vossen, 150 goals in D1 on the clock, in the wake of legends Josip Weber and Francis Severeyns

By scoring the 150th goal of his career in the Pro League on Saturday against Eupen, Jelle Vossen, 32, has entered the Top 10 of D1’s top scorers since the advent of professional football in Belgium. A real feat!

The decisive man from Zulte Waregem could also quickly rise in the hierarchy since, according to the count made by our VTM colleague Jarno Berthothe legends of nineties Francis Severeyns and Josip Weber are at 151, far behind the poleman Erwin Vandenbergh (255).

As for the best scorer of all time in Belgian D1, his name is Bert De Cleynauthor of 350 goals with Mechelen between 1932 and 1955.

Jelle Vossen, who has spent most of his career in Belgium – he stayed for a few months in Middlesbrough and Burnley in England -, defended the colors of Genk, Cercle Brugge, Club Brugge and Zulte Waregem. His first goal in D1, he scored with the Limburgers more than fifteen years ago!
