After a standout 2019 season with the piacenza baseball club, the italian-Venezuelan infielder was poised for a return in 2020. However,the global pandemic disrupted those plans,forcing him to remain in South America. Last year, Chacon made his Serie A debut with the Turin Grizzlies, showcasing his talents on the Italian baseball scene.
Now, having permanently relocated to Piacenza, a return to his original Italian team felt like a natural progression. At the age of 23,Chacon brings a wealth of experience to the Piacenza roster. He spent two seasons (2016 and 2017) honing his skills in the Dominican professional leagues, playing for minor league affiliates of the Boston Red Sox. During his time with the Red Sox association,Chacon impressed scouts with his defensive prowess at shortstop,second base,and third base,as well as his remarkable speed on the basepaths.
His Serie B debut at the age of 20 further solidified his reputation as a rising star.in 2019, ChaconS performance with Piacenza placed him among the league leaders in both offensive and defensive statistics. Last year, he made 24 appearances in Serie A with the Turin Grizzlies, even launching a home run against the Milan team, a team he will face again this season.

Marco Bersani: I think it’s a fantastic move for both Chacon and Piacenza. He’s a proven talent with Serie A experience, something valuable for a team looking to make a strong push in 2022. you don’t just rebuild that kind of experience overnight.
Right, and speaking of experience, he’s had quite the journey, hasn’t he? Time in the Dominican Republic with Red Sox affiliates, a Serie B breakout year in Piacenza, and then up to Serie A with Turin. How do you think that varied background will impact his performance with Piacenza?
Marco Bersani:
Absolutely. That trajectory speaks volumes about his dedication and adaptability. He’s faced different levels of competition,learned various styles of play,and ultimately,honed his skills. That versatility is a huge asset for any manager. He can play multiple positions, wich gives Marenghi options. Plus,he’s shown he can consistently perform at a high level. Remember that Serie A home run against Milan? That speaks for itself!
Indeed, iconic moment! Now, some might argue that Piacenza is a step down from Serie A. Do you see it that way? Could this move potentially hurt Chacon’s long-term career growth?
Marco Bersani:
I see it as a smart, calculated move. Look, Serie A is a testament to his abilities, but Piacenza offers something equally valuable: consistency and opportunity. He can be a leader, a cornerstone of this team, and contribute significantly to their success. This isn’t about taking a step back; it’s about establishing himself as a leader and a driving force on a team with championship aspirations.
