Wout van Aert drove everyone from pillar to post in the Omloop. Johan Museeuw was already impressed.
It was looking at what Wout van Aert could show at the start of the road season. “The dominance was great,” says Johan Museeuw in Het Nieuwsblad. “Wout has made progress again, but especially the team has become much stronger. All factors point to a gap with the rest. There is only one factor that is beyond his control: luck.”
Especially in the Tour of Flanders, bad luck can determine the course. “Pump at the wrong time, a crash. But with this condition, Van Aert always rides the final of the Tour. I hope for the competition that they get better and then I mainly look at QuickStep. Maybe they peak a little later, but I hope for them that Jumbo-Visma is not taking their place for the classics.”
Although Van Aert is and remains a human being for Museeuw. “Look at the Tour of Britain last year. He was really outstanding in that regard, and two weeks later, at the World Cup in Leuven, you could see that his condition was just that little bit less.”
