Juan Fernando Quintero started in River Plate’s debut in the Copa Argentina. The Colombian, who had not been in the victory against San Lorenzo for the League, was one of those chosen by Marcelo Gallardo for the first match of the alternate tournament.
Barco and Julián Álvarez were also present in the initial team and helped it finish with victory. The first goal came from Juanfer’s feet from a corner kick that Zuculini took advantage of in the area to score with a header.
The second was Alvarez. The play began with Quintero opening space in the rival defense. The flyer waited for Ship to arrive, which he then saw arrive at the Spider and he put a center so that, again with a header, he increased the score.
Before the end of the first half, Juanfer’s goal came. The referee decreed the maximum penalty for a foul in the area against Palavecino. The person in charge of collecting it was the number ’10’ who did not waste and celebrated the third.
In the second half the game did not change. River continued with its offensive football proposal due to the weakness of its rival. After 15 minutes of intensity, he decided to slow down, defend the result and the Doll made three changes.
He took out Quintero, Barco and Palavecino and brought Paradela, Pochettino and Suárez onto the pitch. He also replaced Suarez with Romero. With less momentum, River looked for the fourth goal and got it in the 79th minute of the game.
Andrés Herrera scored his first goal with the crossed band team. The winger received a center down the left flank, tried to control and although it seemed that it was too long, he took a shot with which he beat goalkeeper Carlos Morel. The scoreboard was closed by Paradela who put the fifth in a good night for River.
With this result the meeting ended at the Martearena stadium in Salta. Gallardo’s team will face the winner of the match between Barracas Central and Acassuso in the next round.
