Judd Trump Dominates Turkish Masters with Record-Breaking Performance
Judd Trump, at 32 years old, proved his dominance in the final of the Turkish Masters, leaving Matthew Selt struggling to keep pace.trump’s masterful display culminated in a stunning 147-break in the 10th frame, marking the 173rd maximum break in snooker history. This extraordinary feat also secured its place as the 10th maximum break achieved in a final and the 7th of this season alone.
This remarkable 147-break was Trump’s sixth in official tournaments, placing him among the sport’s elite. Only snooker legends Ronnie O’Sullivan (15), John Higgins (12), Stephen Hendry (11), and Stuart bingham (8) have achieved more maximum breaks.
Trump’s victory was not just about the 147-break; he showcased his exceptional skill throughout the match, ultimately securing a resounding 10-4 win over Selt. This triumph marks Trump’s 23rd ranking title, solidifying his position as one of the most accomplished players in the world.
As the champion of the inaugural Turkish Masters, Trump, currently ranked number 3 globally, received a prize of £100,000, equivalent to approximately €120,000.
I’m thrilled to welcome legendary snooker player, Shaun Murphy, to the show today! Shaun, thanks for joining me.
Shaun: It’s a pleasure to be here. Always happy to talk snooker!
We’ve got a lot to unpack after Judd Trump’s stunning performance at the Turkish Masters this past weekend. A 10-4 victory over matthew Selt is impressive on its own, but that 147-break was something else. What were yoru thoughts watching that unfold?
Shaun: Judd’s on another level right now. He’s always been a gifted potting machine, but the consistency and ruthlessness he’s displaying lately is truly remarkable. You could see from the moment he stepped out there he was persistent, and that 147 was just the icing on the cake. it had to be a real shot in the arm for his confidence.
Absolutely. Seven maximum breaks this season is staggering. Where do you think he ranks among the current crop of players in terms of pure potting ability?
Shaun: I’d say Judd is right up there with the best. Ronnie O’Sullivan will always be in the conversation, of course. But Judd’s technique and touch are exceptional, and he seems to be able to pot balls from virtually anywhere on the table. It’s a joy to watch.
We can’t ignore the 147’s impact on the larger context. this is the 10th maximum achieved in a final and the 173rd overall. It surely adds to the allure and prestige of the sport, wouldn’t you say?
Shaun: Definitely. These maximum breaks are snooker’s equivalent of a hole-in-one in golf. It’s a moment of perfection that captures the imagination and showcases the unbelievable skills these players possess. Every time one happens, it’s a boost for the sport, especially when it’s on a big stage like the Turkish Masters final.
Looking ahead, Judd’s victory puts him in a strong position for even more success this season. Do you see him challenging for more titles, and perhaps even reclaiming the world number one spot?
Shaun: Without a doubt. Judd is in a fantastic position. His confidence must be sky-high after this win, and he’ll be going into every tournament with a real belief that he can take it down. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him climb back to the number one spot before the season is out.
Shaun, thank you so much for your insights. It’s always great to pick your brain about the game.
Shaun: My pleasure!
