UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin, still criticizes Andrea Agnelli over the European Super League. The Juventus boss has been branded the Vladimir Putin of football.

Agnelli became one of the initiators in initiating the European Super League project, which was opposed by many parties last year. The ambitious project was initiated by 12 giant European clubs, namely Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Agnelli became an important figure, because he was the party who so vigorously campaigned for the importance of the European Super League. Therefore, UEFA really condemned it.

Until now, the UEFA president is still annoyed with Andrea Agnelli. At the Financial Times Business of Football Summit, Ceferin mocked Agnelli like the Vladimir Putin of football.

Putin himself is the President of Russia, who is currently waging war on Ukraine.

“Agnelli is a usurper, a dictator, Putin in football. A man with no shame. Even war doesn’t soften it, it’s a shame,” he said, quoted by 90mins.

Ceferin then explained why the European Super League could not be realized. He considered the clubs only made fans like customers.

“Super League? That’s an absurd idea. Clubs are free to create their own competitions, but don’t expect to compete in UEFA competitions,” he said.

“For them, fans are customers. For us, fans are fans. One of the founders of the Super League called me to apologize and now they are doing it again.”

“First they launched a nonsensical idea in the middle of a pandemic. Now, we hear they launched another Super League in war. They have to live in parallel worlds,” he criticized.
