March is the beginning of the graduation season. At an elementary school in Kanazawa, a video message was sent from a gold medalist to sixth graders who are about to graduate.

Kaori Matsumoto, a gold medalist at the London Olympics and Judo, appeared on the big monitor at Morinosato Elementary School in Kanazawa City.

Mr. Matsumoto:
“What I want to tell you is,’You don’t have to like it.’ I practiced judo every day, but I said,’I don’t like it today, it’s like taking a day off.’ I was thinking about it. Still, as I continued, I became absorbed in it and made friends and set goals. Please do your best now! I support you! “

This video message was sent when teachers and parents of children asked Kaori Matsumoto as part of a class to find ways to make their dreams come true and career education.

Child:
“I thought it was important to be absorbed and to continue.”
“I think that not giving up has reached Mr. Matsumoto’s dream.”
“I’m doing karate, and honestly I don’t want to go too much with that karate, but after hearing Mr. Matsumoto’s story, I wanted to continue even if I didn’t like it.”

With a message from the gold medalist in mind, the children will celebrate their graduation ceremony on March 17th.
