Krejčíková Withdraws from Indian wells Due to Elbow Injury
Czech tennis star Barbora Krejčíková has announced her withdrawal from the BNP Paribas Open, citing an elbow injury as the reason. The World No. 2 expressed her disappointment on the tournament’s Twitter account, stating that she was eagerly anticipating her return to the court but unfortunately, this year’s participation won’t be possible.
Krejčíková’s last appearance was in Doha two weeks ago, where she faced off against Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenková, the reigning Roland Garros champion. The match marked the end of Krejčíková’s tournament run.
This news comes as a blow to the Indian wells tournament, which will now be without two of the top-ranked players in the world. Australian Ashleigh Barty, currently ranked No. 1, has also opted out of both the BNP Paribas Open adn the subsequent Miami Open.
Despite these absences, czech tennis fans still have reason to be excited.Karolína Plíšková, ranked No. 8 globally, is set to make her season debut after recovering from an arm fracture sustained in December.Joining her will be petra Kvitová, Markéta vondroušová, Kateřina Siniaková, and Tereza Martincová, ensuring a strong Czech presence in the competition. Marie Bouzková also has the opportunity to join the main draw through qualification.
I’m excited to welcome former World No. 5 tennis player, Daniela Hantuchová, to the show today. Daniela, thanks for joining me.
daniela:I’m happy to be here. It’s always a pleasure to discuss tennis.I’m sure it’s a disappointment for fans to see Barbora withdraw from Indian Wells, especially after such a promising start to the year.
Me: Absolutely.IIII know many were looking forward to seeing her take on the competition after her impressive run in Doha, even though it ended wiht a tough loss against Jelena ostapenková.
What are your thoughts on Krejčíková’s injuryII adn its timing?
Daniela: It’s definately a setback for BarboraII, especially as Indian Wells is such a prestigious tournament. Elbow injuries can be tricky forI tennis players, as they rely heavily on that joint for their serve and groundstrokes. I’m sure she’ll be doing everything she can to recover properly and getIIIIIIII back on the court as soon as possible.
Me: IiiI couldnI’t agree more.
Speaking of setbacks, the tournament also loses its top-ranked player,Ashleigh Barty, who continues to sit out.I Do youII think her absence will significantly impact the tournament?
Daniela: IiiI thinkII Ashleigh’s absence definitely creates an prospect for other players to step up and potentially make a deep run. While it’s sad to see her miss out, itII opens the door for someone else to seize the moment.
Me:
ThatIIIIIIIII’m sure will be a welcome thought for Karolína Plíšková, who’I’m making her season debut at Indian Wells.
How do you see her performingII after her recovery from that arm fracture?
Daniela: I’m actually very optimistic about Karolína. She’s a fighter, and she’s proven timeIII and again that she can bounce back from injuries.
I think Indian Wells is a good tournament for herIti
I’m sure she’ll be eager toI make a strong statement in her return.
Me: I agree, KarolínaIIIIII is a force to be reckoned with, and it will be exciting to see her backII in action. We also have Petra Kvitová, Markéta Vondroušová, Kateřina Siniaková, and Tereza martincová representing theII Czech Republic.Do you think we’ll see another strong showing from the Czech contingent this year?
Daniela:
The Czech women have been consistently strong in recentI years, and I expect them to continue that trend in Indian Wells. They have depth and talent across the board,
I’m sure they’ll be making someIIII noise in the tournament.
Me:
I definitely agree!
It willI be fascinating to see how the tournament unfolds without Krejčíková and Barty.
Do you have any predictions for who might emerge as a surprise contender?
II Daniela:
With big names out, there’s definitely room for some unexpected resultsI.
players like Jessica Pegula, Paula BadosaIIII, or even someone like Marie Bouzková coming through qualifying could potentially make aIIIII deep run. Indian Wells often brings surprises, so it’s sure to be anI exciting tournament.
me: I can’t waitI to see how it all plays out! Thank you so much for your insights, Daniela. It was a pleasure having you on the show.
