Artūrs Kurucs’ Baskonia Triumphs, But Can They Challenge the Giants?

Today we have the pleasure of having former Denver Nuggets shooting guard and Euroleague veteran, Ricky Rubio, join us to dissect Bitci Baskonia’s hard-fought victory over ASVEL. Ricky, welcome to the show!

Ricky: Thank you for having me. Always happy to discuss Euroleague basketball.

Let’s jump right in. Baskonia took a close one against ASVEL 72-69. Not a blowout by any means. What did you make of the game?

Ricky: It was a classic Euroleague grinder, the kind of game that can go either way. While baskonia ultimately secured the win, ASVEL kept it close throughout. Every possession mattered. You could see the tension, the fight for every rebound, every lose ball. That’s what makes the Euroleague so special.

Absolutely. Now, while Alex Peters had a huge game with 17 points, and Paul Lacombe chipped in 16, Artūrs Kurucs, despite being a Latvian star, saw limited minutes and didn’t manage to score. Do you think this limited role is a cause for concern for Kurucs and baskonia?

ricky: It’s tough to say right now. Kurucs is a talented player, no doubt. But sometimes, roles within a team shift depending on matchups and who’s performing well on a given night. It’s to early to read too much into a single game.

You mentioned the euroleague being “special.” The competition is incredibly fierce. Baskonia’s victory moves them to 15th place. Barcelona, though, is dominating the league with 21 wins. Do you see any team realistically challenging Barcelona for the title this year?

Ricky: Barcelona is undoubtedly the team to beat. They have a loaded roster with astounding depth and a winning mentality. But the Euroleague season is long. Teams like Anadolu Efes, the defending champions, Real Madrid, and even Baskonia, with a few more performances like this one, could certainly make things fascinating.

We saw Anadolu Efes snatch the title last year after defeating Barcelona in a thrilling final.Do you think we could be in for another dramatic finish this year?

Ricky: Absolutely. The Euroleague is known for its unpredictable nature. Any team can upset another on any given night.I wouldn’t be surprised to see another tight race to the finish.

Let’s open this up for our readers. What are your thoughts on Baskonia’s chances? Do you think they have what it takes to make a run in the playoffs? Share your opinions in the comments below.
