Senegalese fans caused a laser scandal during the World Cup qualifier between Senegal and Egypt.
The Senegal national football team has secured a ticket for the World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year. The Africa Cup of Nations champions salvaged a 1-0 first-leg defeat against Egypt in Dakar on Tuesday, winning 1-0 after 90 minutes and extra time on penalties to prevail 3-1 there. Ex-Salzburg star Sadio Mane and Co. were able to celebrate in a direct duel, as they did in the Africa Cup final.
Even then, the game had been hyped up as a big duel between Mane and his Egyptian Liverpool colleague Mohamed Salah.
The spectators did not necessarily notice the actions of both stars, but the hard laser attacks on the players from Egypt. Visibly impaired, Salah even shot his penalty kick into the stands in the decisive phase. A real scandal!
Some videos and GIFs of the “laser match” are circulating on Twitter, and Salah in particular feels the annoying lights on his face.

Ghana at the World Cup
Senegal is at a World Cup for the third time. Ghana can play a role for the fourth time. A 1-1 draw in Abuja against hosts Nigeria on Tuesday was enough for the ‘Black Stars’ to prevail on away goals after losing the first leg. Thomas Partey (10′) benefited from a goalkeeper error in the early opening goal for the guests, Nigeria’s equalizer from William Troost-Ekong (22’/penalty) was not enough in the end. The three remaining African World Cup tickets were then awarded between Algeria and Cameroon (first leg: 1-0), Morocco and Congo (1-1) and Tunisia and Mali (1-0). The preliminary round groups for the finals, which begin in Qatar on 21 November, will be drawn on Friday.
