RB Leipzig surged into fourth place in the Bundesliga with an emphatic goal-scoring spree. An early setback only fueled their determination, and their relentless pursuit could propel them to third place by next weekend.
RB Leipzig delivered a masterclass performance, securing a spot in the Champions League with a commanding 6:1 victory over SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Under the guidance of coach Domenico Tedesco, the team climbed to fourth place, matching SC Freiburg in points but boasting a superior goal difference. Bayer Leverkusen, just one point ahead, remains within reach as Leipzig eyes a higher position.
For Greuther Fürth, the season continues to be a struggle, with only 14 points after 26 matches. Their recent defeat echoes their 2012/13 season loss to Borussia Dortmund, where they suffered a similar 1:6 thrashing. Simultaneously occurring, Leipzig maintains an impressive unbeaten streak against promoted teams, now extending to 23 games.
With 9,418 fans in attendance, Jamie Leweling’s early goal for Fürth in the 4th minute appeared to ignite a fire under RB Leipzig, who were caught off guard initially. however, the visitors quickly regained their composure, with André Silva (17th), Emil Forsberg (32nd), Konrad Laimer (35th), and Benjamin Henrichs (45th) delivering a series of devastating blows to the Franconian defense before halftime.
Mohamed Simakan (59th minute) and the ever-lethal Christopher Nkunku, who netted his 15th goal of the season (69th minute), sealed the fate of Fürth in a dominant display. RB Leipzig’s six-goal haul on the road in the elite class was last seen in the 2017/18 season against Hertha BSC (6:2).
Leipzig’s Absentees: Klostermann, Olmo, and Kampl
Leipzig found themselves caught off guard by the fearless Fürth side. The Franconians, riding high on the confidence of six unbeaten home games, immediately imposed their aggressive 4-3-3 formation on the visitors. Leweling, showcasing his agility, darted past Amadou Haidara on the right flank, leaving Josko Gvardiol in disbelief. After a brief stumble, Leweling regained his footing and expertly slotted the ball into the near corner to give his team the led.
RB Leipzig took some time to find their rhythm in the match. With key players like defender Lukas klostermann, attacking midfielder Dani Olmo, and central midfielder Kevin Kampl temporarily unavailable, coach Domenico Tedesco had to reshuffle his lineup. The team required a brief adjustment period to settle into the game.Eventually, Angelino delivered a precise cross from the left flank, finding André Silva, who outmaneuvered Nick Viergever and headed the ball into the net to equalize.
