Other World Group Two matches will feature Uruguay and China, Lebanon and Monaco, Lithuania and Egypt, Thailand and Bolivia, Taiwan and Hong Kong, Slovenia and Estonia, Tunisia and Greece, El Salvador and Denmark, Poland and Indonesia, Bulgaria and South Africa, Barbados and Ireland.
Austria will play in the world’s first group matches against Pakistan, Colombia against Turkey, Israel against the Czech Republic, Uzbekistan against Japan, Ecuador against Switzerland, Peru against Chile, Portugal against Brazil, Norway against India, Ukraine against Romania, Finland against New Zealand and Bosnia and Herzegovina v. Mexico.
The winners of the first group of pairs will secure a place in the Davis Cup qualifier, which will allow them to enter the Davis Cup final. The losers of the first group and the winners of the second group will fight in the first group play-off tournament, while the second group losers in the play-off games will meet the best teams in the third group regional tournaments.
It has already been reported that at the beginning of March, the Latvian national team with captain Ernest Gulbi beat Thailand 3-2 in the duel for maintaining their place in the second group of the Davis Cup. The Davis Cup is the main tennis competition for men’s teams, organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) since 1900. Originally organized as a competition between the US and British national teams, it is now the largest annual international team competition. The Latvian national team has been participating in this tournament since 1993.
