Lions Braunschweig Donate Excess Sportswear to Oxfam

The Löwen Braunschweig basketball team is taking a stand for sustainability. Starting this season, they’ll be donating surplus sportswear from their fan shop to a local second-hand store. All proceeds will go directly to Oxfam, an international organization dedicated to fighting poverty and injustice worldwide.

This initiative reflects the club’s commitment to social duty and environmental consciousness.”We recognize the importance of minimizing waste and promoting a circular economy,” stated Löwen Managing Director Nils mittmann. “partnering with Oxfam allows us to make a tangible difference in our community while also raising awareness about the impact of fast fashion.”

Margit Löffler, a shop consultant, emphasized the broader benefits of second-hand shopping. “By choosing pre-owned items,we can collectively reduce our environmental footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future,” she explained. The fashion industry is a major contributor to global pollution, accounting for approximately 10% of global carbon emissions. Initiatives like the Löwen Braunschweig’s partnership with Oxfam demonstrate how sports teams can leverage their platform to promote positive change.
