Luka Elsner: “If there was a bottom to hit this season… I think we hit it against Seraing”

Standard lost this Sunday against Seraing, 0-1, another defeat which sums up this nightmarish season well.

The coach, Luka Elsner, did not go by the back of the spoon in the post-match interview: “If there was a bottom to hit this season I think we hit it tonight. In all aspects, we were dominated by Seraing. It is difficult to explain it. We had no energy and our motivation was at half mast. We gave the image of an apathetic team and clearly it was a very difficult moment to live“.

Renaud Emond said after the match that he was impatiently awaiting the end of the season… For Elsner the priority is elsewhere: “You have to say to yourself that we are 7 points ahead of Seraing, there are 3 matches left and we are not yet mathematically saved. We have to finish the season quickly, but finish it now, and we will have to find boys who are ready to get the points we are missing, because it is crucial. Preparing for the new season will be a second phase, but the priority phase is what you have to save yourself.

Luka Elsner has the feeling that these batterings are eternal new beginnings:“We were coming out of 3 matches where we had created a positive dynamic. And like every time, we take a step forward, and then we take 10 steps back, we arrive at a situation where we neither respect the supporters nor the opponent, nor football” concluded the Standard coach.
