Madona will host the European Junior Biathlon Championship next February

The calendar of next season’s international biathlon competition was published on Wednesday, and the European Junior Championship is scheduled for February 13-19 in Madona.

It has already been reported that the European Junior Championships in Madona are due to take place in February 2021, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was canceled, with the IBU immediately announcing that it would take place in Madona in 2023.

In the junior competition calendar, this is the fourth competition of the season, which will take place after the three stages of the IBU Junior Cup, but before the World Youth and Junior World Championships in Shchuchinsk, Kazakhstan, in early March.

The World Cup (WC) season will start on November 27 with a stage in the Finnish city of Kontiolahti, followed by competitions in Hohfilzen (Austria), Annecy (France), Pokljuka (Slovenia), Ruholding (Germany), Antholc (Italy), Nove Mesto in Moravia (Czech Republic). ), Estesund (Sweden) and will traditionally end on the Holmenkollen route in Norway.

The World Championship between the PK stages in Antholc and Nove Mesto in Moravia will take place from 6 to 19 February on the Oberhof track in Germany.

The first stage of the IBU Cup will take place from 21 to 27 November in Schönen, Norway. Athletes will then compete in seven more stages, ending the season in early March on the Canadian track in Keenmore.

The European Championships will take place from 23 to 29 January on the Swiss track in Lenzerheide.

The PK calendar is designed to minimize overlaps with the World Cup in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December.

The IBU also published on Wednesday a list of national federations sanctioned for the use of ski wax in excess of the prescribed perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) dose.

South Korea, the Czech Republic, Belarus and Finland have been sanctioned for such violations in the Junior Cup. Poland, Germany and Japan have been fined for such violations in the IBU Cup.

These national federations have received fines of several thousand euros. A second similar violation will result in a higher fine, but after the third violation, national federations will be disqualified in subsequent IBU competitions.
