BarcelonaThe traffic lights have gone out in Qatar and the Moto GP season has started again. With the sound of engines on the asphalt also comes the first pole. The fastest lap in the classification was signed by Jorge Martín and he will start from first place in this Sunday’s race (3pm, DAZN), which will open a World Marathon.
Jorge Martin leads the Ducati
The San Sebastián de los Reyes rider starts the season as he finished the previous one. The Madrilenian has been the best Ducati (of the eight on the tarmac) and has signed his fifth pole since he raced in Moto GP in just the fifteen races he has competed in. “We are missing something. I am not confident for tomorrow,” said the Pramac Racing driver once he got off the bike. At the head of the grid will be accompanied by Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing), for the first time in the front row, and Marc Márquez, who is once again the usual with a renewed Honda. Cervera set the pace and led the table for much of the session.
Johann Zarco, about to annoy Yamaha even more
The rider of the Ducati satellite team has been on a (valid) lap of the start of the World Cup for the current champion, Fabio Quartararo. The Frenchman from Yamaha starts the season without much good feeling. He has just not been comfortable on the bike and has been on the verge of not moving into Q2. But thanks to a yellow flag in the last lap that invalidated Zarco’s lap, he was able to maintain the second best time of Q2 and will start 11th this Sunday.
The ‘pole’ of Moto2, for a beginner
Celestino Vietti (Kalex) gets his first pole position in the Moto2 category. Although Sam Lowes (Kalex) has made a faster turn, his lap has been canceled out to exceed the limits of the circuit in qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix, which is being contested at the Losail circuit. With a time of 1.59.082, the Italian had a margin of 112 thousandths over the second, his compatriot Tony Arbolino (Kalex). Vietti will start for the first time from the starting front line, ahead of his own teammate, Lowes.
Best Moto3 time for Majorcan Izan Guevara
The first pole of the sports career of Izan Guevara has arrived in the first qualy of the 2022 World Cup. The one from Palma set the best time in his last lap with a 2.04.811 to beat Ayumu Sasaki (Husqvarna). The 21-year-old Japanese, already shot after being the fastest in the first round of qualifying, has surpassed the time of the Valencian Jaume Masià (KTM), who has been, little by little, more comfortable throughout the weekend.
