The 2022 National Cadet Judo Competition, held at the Pma Judo Club in soa, showcased the burgeoning talent within Cameroon’s judo scene.Seventeen clubs, representing over 100 young athletes from across the nation, battled it out on the tatami, delivering thrilling matches that captivated spectators and parents alike.
Emerging victorious was the Mega Fitness club,securing a commanding lead with ten medals,including four gold,two silver,and four bronze. Kodokan Judo Club of Bafoussam claimed second place with two gold and one silver medal, while Yaoundé Sport Judo Club (YSJ) rounded out the podium with two gold medals.
This extraordinary display of skill and sportsmanship reflects the success of Fécajudo’s growth and promotion initiatives.Fécajudo President Alain Christian Kingue highlighted the association’s commitment to nurturing young talent, stating, “We are in a policy of development and promotion of judo, and we are here to build our teams. If we do not have this succession, we cannot continue to perform at a high level.”
The competition saw participation from judokas as young as 15, many of whom have been training for over five years. Some were experiencing their first taste of competitive judo,while others,though seasoned club members,were stepping onto the competitive stage for the first time.
“Thes are children who are growing in strength,” Kingue emphasized. “Training is not only on the tatami, it is also teaching them to face adversity by seeing things differently.”
This event served as a valuable stepping stone for these young athletes, providing them with crucial experience and exposure. The future of Cameroonian judo appears bright,with a new generation of judokas eager to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors.
Looking ahead, the judo calendar is packed with exciting events.Next month, Kribi will host the Cameroon Judo Championships, followed by the Golden Kimono, Fécajudo’s largest competition, which will see over 500 young athletes vying for glory. In June, Cameroon will proudly host the Cadet Judo Championship, further cementing its position as a rising force in the world of judo.
