Mike Büskens should lead Schalke 04 right back into the first division. The 53-year-old, previously assistant coach, takes over at the Royal Blues after the split from Dimitrios Grammozis.
The previous assistant coach Mike Buskens becomes the new head coach of the second division club FC Schalke 04 until the end of the season. The 53-year-old follows on an interim basis Dimitrios Grammozisas the Gelsenkirchener announced on Monday.
“We are very pleased that Mike Büskens has agreed to our proposal to support the club in the current phase by moving to the front row at short notice,” said Schalke’s sporting director Rouven Schroeder. “We are 100 percent convinced that Buyo is the right choice for the final phase of the season.”
“Everyone advised me to do it”
“When Rouven approached me on Sunday afternoon with the club’s request, I first sought a conversation with my family and with Huub Stevens. Everyone advised me to take on the task until the end of the season,” said Büskens, who was under Stevens 25 years, celebrated the greatest success in Schalke club history. The Royal Blues are sixth in the table, six points behind the promotion places, nine games are still to come.
However, Büskens cannot currently lead the training. The former Gelsenkirchen player had tested positive for the corona virus on Sunday. According to the club, he currently has no symptoms. First, Matthias Kreutzer leads the training units. Schalke parted ways with Grammozis on Sunday.
