MLB and Players Association meet without progress in negotiations

Mexico City /

Major League Baseball (MLB) Deputy Commissioner Dan Halem and MLB Players Association (MLBPA) Chief Negotiator Bruce Meyermet this Thursday in New York without reaching any agreement that would solve the conflict that affects the Major Leagues.

As reported by USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale in a post on Twitter, the meeting between both representatives lasted for an hour and a half, and after concluding it was not specified when they will meet again.

This is the first time that MLB player and team owner representatives have metafter the announcement of the cancellation of the start of the 2022 baseball season, made last Tuesday by Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred.

In this Thursday’s meeting, neither party presented a proposal, therefore, any progress to conclude the work stoppage experienced by the MLB, It will depend on when both parties sit down at the negotiating table again.

In the nine-day negotiation process in Jupiter, Florida (USA), union members and owners made progress, such as an increase in 10 to 12 the teams that act in the postseason and when it seemed that the way was showing to leave this dispute behind, the differences resurfaced.

The lack of consensus between players and owners on issues such as the distribution of benefits, salary arbitration, among other economic issuesadded to the changes to the rules that the owners unilaterally want to make, such as the implementation of a pitch clock or the use of larger bases, continue to open a large gap between both parties.

March 31, which was the date set for the start of the Major League season, is already behind us and baseball continues on tenterhooks, not knowing when the light will shine again on its playing field.
