There are 351 men’s basketball programs that aspire to reach March Madness. The 351 are divided into 32 conferences and 68 contest the tournament.
The most famous conferences are known as the Power Five (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 12, SEC), with the rest known as Mid Majors.
There are two ways to qualify: Conference Tournament Champion or Wild Cards At Largewhich are the best remaining teams, which leaves 32 direct tickets and the remaining 36.

After an unusual 2021, in which all games were played around Indianapolis, the NCAA returns to its normal schedule for March Madness, playing across the country and returning to the usual days: it starts on Tuesday with the First Four and on Thursday the first round.

The NCAA semifinals and finals will be played at the Mercedes Benz Superdome New Orleans. The home of the NFL Saints will host the Final Four for the sixth time in its history (1982, 1987,1993, 2003, 2012) and for the first time in a decade, the last time when Anthony Davis guided Kentucky to the title give the first championship to coach John Calipari.
