Discussing dominance: An Interview with Former Dutch International, Wim Kieft

Welcome back, football fans! Today we have a special guest joining us, former Dutch international striker adn Eredivisie legend, Wim Kieft. Wim,thanks for taking the time to chat with us today.

Wim: It’s a pleasure to be here. Always happy to talk football.

Moderator: Let’s dive right in. The 2020-2021 Eredivisie season saw Ajax Amsterdam dominate, securing their title with a pleasant lead. What were your thoughts on their performance?

Wim: Ajax were simply outstanding. Erik ten Hag has built a team that plays stunning, attacking football, and the results speak for themselves: 102 goals scored, only 23 conceded – those are breathtaking numbers.

Moderator: Absolutely.Their attacking prowess was undeniable, and their midfield maestro, Dušan Tadić, was instrumental in orchestrating their play. He bagged a remarkable 17 assists. What makes Tadić such a special player?

Wim: Tadić is a true maestro. He dictates the tempo, finds those killer passes, and has a vision on the pitch that few players possess. He’s the heart and soul of that Ajax team.

Moderator: Now, while ajax shone brightly, at the other end of the table, ADO Den Haag and VVV-Venlo struggled mightily. Did their performance surprise you?

Wim: Sadly, no. Both ADO and Venlo have battled financial difficulties in recent years, and that reflects on the pitch. It’s a tough league, and without the resources to compete at the top, survival becomes a Herculean task.

Moderator: Speaking of individual performances, Giorgios Giakoumakis was a revelation, claiming the top scorer title with an impressive 26 goals despite playing for a relegated side. What stood out to you about his game?

Wim: Giakoumakis is a clinical finisher. His positioning is superb, he’s strong in the air, and he possesses a calmness in front of goal that’s rare. It’s a shame his goals weren’t enough to save Venlo, but I’m sure he’ll attract interest from bigger clubs.

Moderator: Absolutely, he’s definitely one to watch. Shifting focus back to Ajax, their dominance secured them direct qualification for the Champions League. How do you see them performing on that stage?

Wim: Ajax have shown they can compete with the best in Europe. They reached the semi-finals in 2019, remember? With Ten Hag at the helm and talents like Tadić and promising youngsters coming through, I expect them to make a strong showing in the champions League.

Moderator: I agree, they have the potential to go far. Now, before we wrap up, I want to throw this open to our readers. What are your thoughts on the 2020-2021 Eredivisie season? Were you surprised by any of the results? Who impressed you the most? Let us know in the comments below and, Wim, thank you for your insights!
