This was advanced by the ESPN network on Tuesday.
Currently, the NFL’s overtime rule states that both teams can have the ball once in overtime, unless the club initiating it on offense scores a touchdown. It would seem that this format is maintained for the regular season.
Back in February, NFL Competitiveness Committee Chairman Rich McKay said he expected the league to discuss making changes to its overtime rules. For there to be an amendment, 24 of the 32 clubs must vote in favor.
The Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly offered to establish a new overtime format. Both clubs would like each team to necessarily obtain possession in extra time. The Tennessee Titans, for their part, would propose that the team entitled to the first possession make a conversion of two points to win automatically.
In the last playoffs, many pointed out the absurdity of the current rule, after the exciting game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. The latter were unable to touch the ball in overtime after the Missouri team won the toss and scored a major.
